Friston is about mid way between Aldeburgh and Saxmundham in a delightful area of countryside bounding the Suffolk Heritage Coastline which is counted amongst the finest areas of wildlife, historic and landscape interest in the country. Aldeburgh, Suffolk's best known resort with its shingle beach, is famous for its annual music festival and yachting regatta in the middle of August. Fish can be purchased from the beach huts at any time of year. Its charming High Street and excellent sailing and golfing is within a few minutes drive. The concert hall at Snape is close by. It was developed from 19th century Maltings and is now a world famous venue alongside the Brittern-Pears School of Music. The centre is a must for visitors to the areas who can browse the antique and craft shops, galleries and restaurants in this waterside location. A farmer's market is held there on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays in the month. The Suffolk cycle routes and numerous walks are also within easy reach.
The area is ideal for walkers and dog owners as there are many footpaths, coastal paths and forest walks nearby. Dunwich Heath is within easy driving distance and is a National Trust Area of Outstanding Beauty. Also the woodland walks and the coastal paths at Leiston and Sizewell beach are fantastic for walking, bird watching and walking the dogs. Both have tea rooms and visitor centres.
Also, within a short drive is Constable Country. The villages of Kersey, Lavenham and Chelsworth are famous for half-timbered medieval houses and Long Melford, famous for its antiques and the National Trust's Melford Hall.
